Four years ago Shai Agassi founder and CEO of Better Place stood together with the President of Israel, Shimon Peres and Carlos Goshn CEO of Renault, announcing their commitment to make the world less depending on oil. Many people called this an audacious plan, cars will never drive on anything else than fuel. Ok, some cars are using natural gas, but even that is something extreme.
But the vision of Shai Agassi became reality, Better Place is laying out the infrastructure for electric vehicles, not only in Israel, but also in countries such as China, Australia, Denmark and The Netherlands, with many others to follow. Offering drivers of electric cars not only the infrastructure to charge their electric cars but also with battery switch stations, were empty batteries are being changed within a couple of minutes. Making it possible to drive “unlimited” distances with an electric car.
Today the first 10 electric Renault Fluence’s were delivered to the first buyers, the two leading leasing companies in Israel, Eldan and Albar. Making the dream becoming a reality.
This year thousands of Renault Fluence’s will be delivered in Israel and Denmark. As Shai Agassi said: Four years ago we had a vision and a piece of white paper. Today we have proved that when you set a target and works towards it with determination, you can achieve great things and ignite a worldwide change”.
The parade of electric cars driving through Tel Aviv today, proved he is right.
